May 10, 2022
Dear Parents, Guardians, and Patrons,
Each year, the Salmon River Joint School District has asked patrons to support the schools by voting for a supplemental levy to bridge the gap between what is distributed from the state and federal allocations and the funds needed to provide a quality education and extracurricular activities. The levy is voted on and replaced each year. This is not an additional levy.
At a special board meeting on May 9, 2022, the Salmon River Board of Trustees voted to suspend the supplemental levy vote for May 17, 2022 until August 30, 2022. A clerical error on the ballot that listed the tax cost per thousand instead of per one hundred thousand was found last week. This would reduce the levy amount to $4,950 instead of the $495,000 needed to continue the programs and operational costs of our district and schools. The law will not allow the ballot to be altered to the correct tax rate. Therefore, the board voted to withdraw the ballot for May 17th and will ask patrons to support the levy on August 30th, which is the next available election date. Though voters will see the levy listed, it will be crossed out. Those ballots already voted will be counted, but the results are not reported.
If you have questions or concerns, please contact Michelle Hollon at the district office 208-630-6027 hollonm@jsd243.org or Trish Simonson simonsont@jsd243.org.
Sincerely,
Salmon River Joint School District Administration
