Attention- A Letter from the Superintendent
Re: Stage Two Restrictions
Dear Administration,
At a special board meeting our Board agreed to follow the “Idaho Rebounds Stage 2” restrictions. Including
limiting spectators to our home games. We have been notified by our county sheriff’s office that they would not be enforcing the attendance limit. Our Board made it clear, at this meeting, that we (District/Schools) are not the enforcers of these “Stage 2” restrictions either. We will not get into a verbal or physical altercation with anyone who is not on our approved spectator list. We will post the “Stage 2” restrictions and possible consequences for anyone who enters uninvited.

Guidelines for 2020 Sports Events
The Salmon River School District (JSD 243) has put in place protective measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19; however, JSD 243 cannot guarantee that you or your child(ren) will not become infected with COVID-19. Further, attending activities on the campuses of JSD 243 could increase your risk and your child’s risk of contracting COVID-19. All visitors voluntarily assume the risk that they may be exposed to or infected by COVID-19 by attending activities on JSD 243 Campuses.
Protective Guidelines:
- In the event that any person, including: athletes, coaches, fans or support staff is feeling ill or has a fever, it is required that the individual not attend activities at Salmon River Schools.
- Salmon River will do a simple health screening of all players and coaches, including temperature checks, before arriving at opponents’ facilities. We encourage our visitors to also screen their players and coaches before arriving at our facilities.
- We encourage all visiting teams to arrive dressed in game uniforms but locker rooms or class rooms will be available for each team.
- Student athletes will provide their own hydration source and will not share. Salmon River Schools will not provide water bottles, water tanks, and/or jugs.
- Hand sanitizer will be provided at various convenient locations for teams and fans.
- Children must be under adult supervision at all times – they will not be permitted to play in the lobby area, on the gymnasium floor or elsewhere; before, during or after games.
- Masks are permitted, but not required by the Salmon River School District.
- We encourage all fans and spectators to maintain and follow all social distancing guidelines.
- We encourage fans to bring exact change for admission to help eliminate exchange of money.
Adults/students without activity cards $6:00, HS students with activity card/Elem students $4:00, senior citizens over 55 $1.00, children under 5-free.
- We will have separate entrance and exit flow-paths for home teams/fans and visitor teams/fans which will be marked for each facility.
- Coaches and support staff will sanitize equipment and facilities on a daily basis.
Salmon River athletics will continue to monitor the COVID-19 pandemic and modify all plans and guidelines based on the State of Idaho’s Rebound plan and the IHSAA and NFHS guidelines.
**Currently (1/5/21) we are also operating under the Stage 2 guidelines, including limiting the number of spectators to 10 or less. Please see the Stage 2 Letter from Superintendent Doramus for additional information**
Basketball Cancelled
December 16, 2020
Due to a positive COVID-19 test by a staff member of the middle/high school and a number of boy’s and girl’s athletes who are showing cold like symptoms we have decided to suspend both the boy’s and girl’s programs until after Christmas at which time we will re-evaluate the situation. No students have tested positive at this time.
As always, if your child is not feeling well please, keep them home.

Covid Letter
Dear parents, staff, and community members:
We received notification today that a middle/high school teacher has tested positive for COVID-19. While we must protect the privacy of the person involved, we believe it is best to communicate transparently with you so you can make well-informed decisions for your family.
There is nothing more important to district than the safety and health of our students, our staff, and their families. We are working directly with county health officials to address this situation. They have recommended we share the following with you: We received notification that one of our middle/high school teacher has tested positive for COVID-19. The Director of North Central Health Department and I discussed potential options to address this positive test. It was determined that there is minimal risk to the student’s classmates at this time. With only 1 ½ days of school before Christmas break no students or staff will be quarantined besides the teacher and their child. Rather we will continue to closely monitor the health of our students and staff and take appropriate actions as needed. You can help us by keeping your child home if they are ill. We will continue to follow all COVID-related safety procedures.
COVID-19 is transmitted through person-to-person contact and through the exchange of respiratory droplets. As more cases are being confirmed across the state, including in our community, we must be vigilant. Symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, cough, and shortness of breath. If you or any member of your family exhibit these symptoms, please contact your medical provider for advice immediately. Symptoms usually appear 2-14 days after exposure.
The CDC recommends the following best practices to help prevent the spread of COVID-19:
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
- Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available.
- Avoid close contact with those who are sick.
- Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your sleeve.
- Avoid touching your eyes, mouth, and nose.
- Disinfect frequently touched surfaces and objects.
- Stay at home when you are sick.
- Practice social distancing, leaving at least six feet between
you and other people. - Wear a cloth mask in public when you cannot social distance.
Our greatest priority is the safety of our students, staff, and community members. It is important to remember that children are greatly influenced by the reactions of adults when facing difficult circumstances. I encourage everyone to remain calm and to be empathic and respectful to those affected.
We are grateful for the opportunity to serve you and your family, especially as we face this challenging situation together. Thank you for your support of district.
Sincerely,
Jim Doramus
